THE TICKER

DAILY ITEM. The battle over North Hills' possible condemnation of Deepdale Golf Club made its way onto "The Daily Show." Village officials aren't amused. In fact, Village Attorney Thomas Levin is convinced some of the club's high-powered members had a hand in attracting the Comedy Central show's interest. The club cooperated in the taping of the segment, "Course Correction," which aired recently. It skewered the burghers of North Hills, described as "an aging hell-hole" whose residents, in an effort to join the club, even "upgraded to younger trophy wives." Club spokesman Gary Lewi denied instigation. Did Levin find it funny? "I don't find 'The Daily Show' funny most of the time, anyway," he said, adding that the village declined to participate.
"What's the point of going on a comedy show? I don't do comedy."
